Our story

From a Rented Room to a Growing Community

The story of Beaumont Leys Masjid is one of steady growth — from a single hired room for Friday prayers in 2010, to a community institution serving hundreds of worshippers every Friday and thousands during Eid. Here are the milestones that shaped us.

  1. 2010

    The Beginning

The story of Beaumont Leys Masjid began in 2010, when a small group of local residents came together with a shared vision: to establish a place where Muslims in Beaumont Leys could gather for Friday prayers. They hired a room at Home Farm Neighbourhood Centre — laying the foundations for what would become a thriving community institution.

As Friday prayers grew in attendance, the brothers hired a room for the five daily prayers, and later the main hall for Jumu’ah while keeping the smaller room for daily prayers. What began as a modest initiative by a handful of residents was steadily becoming an established place of worship.

    A New Chapter

In 2016, Leicester City Council invited bids for the transfer of management of Home Farm Neighbourhood Centre. Beaumont Leys Muslims submitted a successful bid, and responsibility for managing the entire building was transferred to the organisation.

Since then, alhamdulillah, the Masjid has experienced significant growth. Our Friday congregation has increased to approximately 600–700 worshippers, while Eid prayers can attract around 1,800 people — reflecting both the needs of our growing community and the trust placed in the Masjid.

    Growing Beyond Our Space

As the congregation continued to grow, the building increasingly reached the limits of its capacity. In 2022, the brothers began seeking permission to hold Eid prayers in the outdoor area beside the Masjid.

Since then, Eid prayers have been held on the grassy area outside the building, allowing approximately 1,200 brothers to pray outdoors, while the entire building is allocated to sisters so that they can pray in a suitable and dedicated space.

  4. The Next Chapter

    A New Masjid

Today, Beaumont Leys Muslims is working towards an exciting new chapter: securing land from Leicester City Council to build a purpose-built Masjid that can meet the needs of our growing community.

Discussions with the Council are progressing very positively, alhamdulillah, and we hope that an agreement will be finalised soon — enabling us to build a Masjid with the space and facilities needed to serve worshippers, educate our children and adults, support families, and provide a lasting home for future generations.

Building for the Next Generation

From a single rented room in 2010 to a community serving hundreds every Friday and thousands during Eid, our journey is a testament to what can be achieved through sincere intentions, collective effort and the help of Allah.

We are deeply grateful to the residents who laid the foundations, the volunteers who gave their time, the donors who supported our work, and the congregation whose commitment has enabled the Masjid to grow.

As we look ahead to a new Masjid, we invite our community to remain part of this journey. May Allah accept the efforts of everyone who has contributed, and grant success and barakah to the next chapter. Ameen.
